The Canterbury Transition Committee (CTC) is an Ad Hoc committee of the CCRA Board of Directors. It was appointed in in 2017 to manage a number of initiatives that arose after Geranium won the right to build 99 homes on portions of the former Canterbury Golf Course. Specific details are documented in the Ontario Municipal Board Minutes of Settlement. The implementation of those details was assigned to the CTC which meets with the Canterbury Land Development Committee that represents Geranium.

The mandate for the CTC was approved by the Board of Directors on November 13, 2017. The mandate covers seven areas of responsibility that are still being managed by the committee.

  1. To monitor and actively participate as appropriate in making sure that commitments and obligations of Canterbury Land Development Corporation (CLDC), the Township of Scugog (Township) and CCRA as described in the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) approved Minutes of Settlement (MOS) and associated Draft Plan of Subdivision are carried out.
  2. To continue  discussions and negotiations with CLDC and Township  on specific issues as CLDC development plans move ahead and transition into the actual construction phases. This to include negotiations with CLDC for the needed expansion and renovations for the Community Centre, Swimming Pool and landscaping of associated exterior areas to adequately provide for the accommodation of the new residents.
  3. To carry out research and investigation into possible recreational uses for the green open space lands described in the MOS that are to be conveyed by the Township to CCRA.
  4. To review the procedures to be developed for residential purchasers from CLDC to become members of CCRA and consider any changes in CCRA by-laws, guidelines and procedures necessary or desirable as a result.
  5. To assess the effectiveness of regulatory bodies implementing all operations during the construction period for compliance with applicable regulations and requirements relating to such matters as fill, transportation, noise, air and water quality
  6. To deal with CLDC and the Township as appropriate with respect to questions and concerns raised by CCRA members during the construction period.
  7. To recommend to the Board of Directors what actions should be taken and to take such actions as are approved by the CCRA Board of Directors.

In July 2021 a report was presented to the Board of Directors. All of the items in the report remain on the agenda as the CTC meets every month with the Canterbury Land Development Committee. Click here to view the report.

The work of the CTC has carried on to the present. During that time the committee published regular updates for the residents of Canterbury Common in a newsletter called “What’s Happening”. Click here to access the list of newsletters.
